Pepsi-Cola of the Hudson Valley

Project Title:  Disaster Recovery Grid for Small and Medium Businesses

CART Center PI:  Eitel Lauria

Projected Economic Impacts: 

  • Will keep company from going out of business in the event of a disaster
  • Costs will be saved and capital allocations increased as a result of better inventory control
  • Labor savings will occur from more efficient  inventory management
  • Fuel and shipping costs will be saved resulting from less unnecessary transportation

 

 

1-800-Flowers

Project Title:  New Technology Architecture Migration

CART Center PI:  Ron Coleman

Projected Economic Impacts: 

  • A QA lab will be a resource that provides cost saving services to 1-800-FLOWERS and then to other companies.  It will enable more rapid consolidations of newly acquired businesses.
  • Training in new technologies will enable a transition to new technologies with existing personnel and save jobs. NY State benefits from the skilled workforce.
  • Load testing done by Marist will free up critical resources needed by 1-800-FLOWERS to grow the business.
  • Load testing quantifies the need for new technologies and enables companies to justify new paradigms.  This benefits NY State. 

 

 

Data Synapse

Project Title:  Validating and integrating web services and third party security with Data Synapse Grid Server distributed computing technology

CART Center PI:  Ron Coleman

Projected Economic Impacts: 

  • Will enhance Data Synapse's revenue potential by removing the security integration dependency from Data Synapse technology that prohibits it from being deployed outside of its typically installed base model of departmental implementations and thus expanding its potential role in the Center and for other multi-organizational distributed systems environments.
  • Will potentially increase average deal size from $400k to $1M plus, increase current average deal conversions from 6 to 12, and revenues from $3.6 to $7.2 M and add an additional 3 – 5 head count for sales, sales support, and technical support. (Average compensation and benefits are $200k per person for NY headquartered Data Synapse personnel.)   

 

 

IBM Corporation

Project Title:  Business development and workforce training for collaborative and on-demand computing

CART Center PI:  Mary Ann Hoffmann & teaching faculty

Projected Economic Impacts: 

  • Up to 125 jobs could be retained at IBM from retraining in new skills.
  • IBM revenues will be increased because of having more skilled workers to         support the new technologies (particularly the security needs of the new technologies) for which they are one of the market leaders.
  • Cost savings will accrue to companies identified for participation in the Center that choose to use the new technologies. 
  • Federal research funds will be sought for the Center to support IT providers who are interested in moving forward their development efforts and to better serve the industry sectors and businesses that have been attracted to the Center.

 

 

Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp.

Project Title:  Mainframe skills training for job retention

CART Center PI:  David Meck, training faculty

Projected Economic Impacts: 

  • Up to 36 jobs will be retained in Central Hudson's mainframe operations area.
  • Will enable the company to further invest in mainframe technologies and facilities and take advantage of new paradigms that they will be introduced to in the Center (with accompanying economic benefits).
